1) THE WHITE DRESS
I love this trend, and it turns out that the celebrities did too. Jennifer Hudson looked great in a Tom Ford tube dress and so did Ariana Grande, in her white and silver Versace gown. Ciara was spotted wearing a white cut out dress at the Grammys pre-party. This refreshing take on the LBD is still very glamorous, sexy and event appropriate.

2) CUTOUTS
The key to getting this trend right is to have those cutouts reveal appropriate and tasteful, yet teasing, areas of the body. By keeping it minimal, like our girl Iggy Azalea who looked smashing in her blue Armani Prive gown, you can still look sexy and sophisticated at the same time (even though we did not like the braid basket/birds nest she had on the top of her head). Someone else who looked amazing in cutouts is Katharine McPhee, wearing a gorgeous Emilio Pucci, showing off her equally amazing bod’. Miley Cyrus came out with her cutouts in all the wrong places. It all just became a little too much and kinda looked like she ran out of fabric. Joy Villa… I don’t know if what she wore even qualifies as a dress. She just looks like a piece of pollution, a choking hazard for penguins.

I couldn’t emphasise enough just how major this trend is. It was a definite favourite on the Grammys red carpet this year, seen on celebs such Kat Graham and Beyonce. Katy Perry shimmered gracefully down the carpet in Zuhair Murad, looking like fresh morning dew. And Jessie J gave the sheer look a little edge in black, looking like a falling star - absolutely stunning. Meghan Trainor looked anything but sexy in her version of the illusion trend. This was just too much dress for her. It made her look old and unnecessarily bigger. I hate the colours of the dress and the black detailing along her arms look like a symptom of rabies.

4) MENSWEAR
Women have always drawn inspiration from the men and now we are taking all the way to the red carpet. We are moving away from the frocks and slipping into well tailored pants suits and I am loving it. Anna Kendrick arrived looking so sleek in a black pants suit. Sia - minus the freakishly large wig hat - and her little mini-me killed it in their all black ensembles. The straight leg pants and the pin stiletto she paired with her oversized coat was just the sort of eccentric we love on allthatiseccentric. Two of the sisters from HAIM were rocking Stella McCartney inspired menswear. Charli XCX, who usually kills it when it comes to style, was a huge disappointment in my eyes. She looked like she was on her way to prom dressed as a gay orchestra conductor, in Moschino. And Madonna, oh that poor woman. I don’t need to tell you twice that her S&M Matador inspired Givenchy get-up is wrong in every way. We are all about the eccentrics, but we have no admiration for gimmicks. Gwen Stefani on the other hand wore a masterpiece of a Versace jumpsuit. The cigarette leg made it masculine but the beautiful intricate “art work”, as she called it, on the bust added to the balance the right amount of sophistication and femininity that only Versace’s team could get right.

One can never go wrong with a classic gown on the red carpet. And these lovely ladies got it right. Lady Gaga glittered down the carpet in Brandon Maxwell, a dress that showed off her insane curves and great legs. She shined even brighter in her outfit change as she stunned, old Hollywood glam style. The petite Jhene Aiko looked gorgeous in a romantic Alberta Ferretti gown. Taylor Swift was a jaw dropper in her two toned Ellie Saab gown and bright purple Giuseppe Zanotti heels. Nicki Minaj made those boobs and booty pop in her black Tom Ford masterpiece. Keeping up her natural look, just the way we love her. Riri looked like the cutest cupcake/loafer sponge ever, and yet amazing still. I loved her dress, it being something only she could pull off. Some girls on the other hand, didn’t get it right. Zendaya looked like she was drowning in that oddly fitting and coloured duvet cover and matching belt. Ciara’s hair and make-up on the red carpet were flawless. But her dress looked like a flight of spiral stair. Another woman who’s hair and make-up were on point was Kim Kardashian-West. Unfortunately she forgot to actually get dressed and it looks like she left the house in her ‘bigger’ sister Khloe’s bath robe. Poor girl.

Oh how the men stepped their game up on the red carpet this year. They came out and made quite the impression in their suits. Ryan Seacrest, in his line Distinction, came out in a navy and black pairing. Big Sean, Common, Donald Glover, Aloe Blacc, dappered up in classic, solid, all-black or -navy suits while Usher and Ne-Yo ventured into different colours and still killed it. My favourite men were those who played with different textiles and materials. Nick Jonas came out in Versace and Dierks Bentley wore John Varvatos. Both men strayed away from plain and added a pattern, great touch. Jesse McCartney wore a green velvet suit, looking like The Riddler. Kanye West didn’t tick my boxes either, looking like a pimped out cowboy. Seriously, what is with those shoes? Pharrell wore his Adidas line as well, in a shorts suit which made us miss that mountain ranger hat of his.
