That time of the year has come. We spend so much time planning for the perfect ways to spend our summer vacations. Whether you plan on visiting the sandy beaches on the coast or living it up in a new city, you want to make sure that you stand out (not as a tourist but as a fabulous, foreign fashionista) while still remaining comfortable and practical. Here are a few tips to getting that balance right:
1) PACK SMART.
I have never been a believer of this term ‘over-packing’. To me there is no such thing. It makes sense to pack everything that you need when going away. Make sure, however, that you will make use of everything you take with you.
2) STAY IN THE KNOW.
It is in your best interest to have a general idea of your Vacay Itinerary. Knowing what it is you’re going to be up to will give you a better idea of the kind of clothing and shoes you need to take with you and will allow for smart packing.
3) PACK AHEAD.
It is a good idea to plan your outfits ahead of time. That way you’ll avoid wasting time trying to pick an outfit. Having a clear idea of what you’ll be wearing on certain days also prevents you from packing unnecessary things. This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t have any options with you. This leads me to my next point.
4) ALWAYS TAKE YOUR SPARES.
In the case where you’ve had some sort of an accident, it is comforting to know that you can change into a spare. Be it a spare top, pants, underwear or pyjamas you always want to have that option available to you. I also advice that you take with you more than one swimwear attire, more than one set of PJs and more than one pair of shoes. Don’t forget a jacket of some kind, for those chilly days.
5) AVOID BULK.
Items like nightgowns, jeans, sneakers or boots will bulk up your suitcase. Also having a top and pants pairing can waste unnecessary space in your bag. So avoid this by taking with you shorts instead of long pants. Or cut the space in bag down to half by packing dresses, jumpsuits, monokinis - one piece items.
6) DON’T FORGET THE ESSENTIALS.
Make a list of all the important things you absolutely cant live without: charger, camera, hat, sunscreen, money, etc etc. You don’t want to feel uncomfortable or find yourself stranded in place you are unfamiliar with.
7) BE COMFORTABLE.
Comfort and practicality are important if you really want to make the most of your trip. You want to stay comfy on the journey there and back, so wear clothes that you are most chilled in: shorts, leggings, tank tops, flat shoes and so on. When packing for your trip make sure that you do have clothes you can just chill in on those days where you aren’t going to be out and about on.
Go out there and live it up.
Stay Eccentric!
